Three-piece mold to clear the curl of the horns.

Ram's Head Andirons
Andirons live a hard life — red heat, cold nights, and the occasional kick from a boot. We modeled the bighorn heads in oil clay, cast them hollow in manganese bronze for strength, and welded them to hot-rolled billets for the log rests. The horns were the difficult part: the undercuts meant a three-piece mold and a lot of patience pulling the pattern. They have been in the fireplace two winters now and the color has only gotten better.
